Vaccination against HepB needed to decrease liver cancer cases — DOH
The Department of Health (DOH) said vaccination against Hepatitis B could decrease the cases of liver cancer in the country.

In a conference on Thursday, April 11, DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said some individuals had acquired Hepatitis B, which eventually led to liver cancer.
“With the prevention of HepB, nagdedecline, although may liver cancer pa rin from alcohol or other causes, malaki ang decline by vaccination (With the prevention of HepB, it declines, although live cancer cases are still there because of alcohol or other causes, the decrease in cases is evident),” he said.
Herbosa noted that the government should invest in vaccination, as it is better to have prevention rather than spending on medicines to cure the diseases.
Herbosa said that based on the data in 2023, 1,900,000 individuals were tested for Hepatitis B among which 3.1 percent was positive.
He said that 80 percent of the tested individuals were women, of which 45 percent were pregnant at the time of testing, while 2.7 percent of it all was tested positive.
He added that the regions with the highest cases of Hepatitis B include the National Capital Region (NCR), Region XII (Central Visayas), and Central Luzon.
