Francine Diaz apologizes for 'Tomorrow times Together' boo-boo at ASEA ceremony

Filipino actress Francine Diaz apologized after she misread the name of K-pop group Tomorrow X Together at the first Asia Star Entertainer Awards (ASEA) 2024 held in Yokohama, Japan on April 10. 

Diaz attended the show and was a presenter during the ceremony.

When she presented the award for the ASEA Global K-pop Leader, she misread the name of the winner, Tomorrow X Together, as “Tomorrow times Together” instead of saying “Tomorrow by Together.”  

“ASEA Global K-pop Leader winner is Tomorrow times Together,” Diaz announced at the ceremony. 

The mistake landed her on X (formerly Twitter) with the phrase “Tomorrow times Together” trending in the Philippines.

Diaz took to Instagram Live to apologize, saying she was not informed and she is no longer familiar with the current K-pop groups and with what is happening in K-pop. 

“I am very sorry for that very big mistake. Pagpasensiyahan nyo na po ako dahil hindi na po ganon ka-updated sa mga nangyayari ngayon sa K-pop world (Please understand me because I’m no longer that updated on what is happening in the K-pop world),” she said. 

She added, “But now alam ko na, na-educate na po ako: Tomorrow by Together (Now I know, I was already educated: Tomorrow by Together).”

Diaz praised Tomorrow X Together for being kind, saying they even offered her a seat.  

“Tatlong awards, di ba? Tatlong award na-multiply po natin yung awards. (Three awards, right? Three awards that we multiplied),” she said, laughing at her mistake, adding that “Tao lang po, nagkakamali din (I’m only human who also makes mistakes).” 

Tomorrow X Together won four awards: ASEA The Platinum, ASEA Global K-pop Leader, ASEA Artist of the Year and ASEA The Best Performance. 

Diaz added, “Sorry na po, sorry po. Hindi po ako na-inform and pasensiya na po, hindi na po ako masyadong familiar sa mga grupo ngayon (I'm sorry. I was not informed and I'm no longer familiar with groups today). It’s my responsibility (to the fans). Yes. Accountability.”

“Overall sobrang ambabait ng lahat. Hindi lang yung mga artista kahit yung mga makeup nila, hair (staff) (Overall they were very kind. Not only the artists but their makeup and hair [staff],” she said. 

The ASEA 2024 was hosted by Newsen, Korea’s entertainment and sports media outlet, and AtStyle, an online Korean entertainment media. 

Stray Kids bagged the grand prize and also won the ASEA Album of the Year and ASEA The Best Group.
