A 47-year-old Filipino-Chinese businesswoman was found dead inside her condo unit in Ermita, Manila on Wednesday, April 10.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said the woman was found lifeless by her sister who went to the condo unit after being informed that the victim was not responding to the several knocks on her room.
According to the police, the sister's maid knocked on the victim's room to send food but received no response on Tuesday, April 9, at around 6 p.m.
The maid told the sister that the victim was not responding despite several knocks, prompting her to visit the victim’s condo.
As she also received no response from the victim, they decided to seek assistance from condo staff who forcefully opened the second door of the victim's room.
Upon opening the door, they saw the victim hanging from the stairwell with a belt looped around her neck.
Investigators learned that the victim had been suffering from depression, but she refused to take the doctor's prescribed medicines.
Authorities said that they did not find any sign of external injury except for the ligature mark around the victim's neck. However, they said the case is still under further investigation while waiting for the autopsy result.
