In a video statement before dawn on Thursday, Jubahib emphasized that he will not step down as the suspension order violated his right to due process.
“The preventive suspension is unjust since I was not invited to face any trial or even before the Office of the President,” the governor said in a local dialect.
The suspension order stemmed from a complaint filed by Davao del Norte 2nd District Provincial Board Member Orly Amit for grave abuse of authority and oppression in 2022.
Jubahib said that he is confused on grounds for the suspension.
He said the Department of Interior and Local Government did not conduct any investigation on the complaint filed against him.
“They just issued the preventive suspension from OP. Thus, it was a very clear act of injustice because it did not undergo a proper due process.”
Jubahib said that he will not allow the personal interests of his political foes to reign in the province.
The governor urged his supporters to gather at the provincial capitol grounds in Tagum City to oppose the order. “Let us fight this injustice, harassment, and power tripping,” Jubahib said.
Hundreds of his supporters blocked the gates of the provincial capitol grounds early Thursday morning.
The DILG posted a copy of the order at the gate since they failed to enter the capitol.
With the suspension of the Jubahib, DILG-11 Regional Director Abdullah Matalam said that Vice Gov. De Carlo Uy shall be acting governor for 60 days.
