UP Diliman suggests holding online classes amid intense heat

The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) on Wednesday, April 10 advised teachers whose classes can be completed online to consider shifting to remote or asynchronous learning methods during periods of extreme heat.
UPD made the announcement in response to the University Student Council's concerns regarding the extreme heat that Metro Manila is expected to experience in the coming days.
“In view of the concerns raised by the UPD University Student Council regarding extreme heat in Metro Manila in the coming days, faculty members whose class activities may be done online are requested to consider shifting to remote and/or asynchronous modes of learning during extreme heat conditions,” the announcement read.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said majority of the country may continue to experience high heat indices until next month because of the warm and dry season combined with El Niño’s effects.
Moreover, based on the PAGASA’s rainfall forecast for April, most of the country is expected to experience below-normal rainfall conditions, with a higher likelihood of below-normal conditions.
