House 'Young Guns' discuss significance of trilateral summit

The importance of upcoming United States (US)-Japan-Philippine summit wasn't lost on the so-called "Young Guns" of the House of Representatives.
Deputy Majority Leader PBA Party-list Rep. Margarita "Atty. Migs" Nograles; and Assistant Majority Leaders Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, La Union 1st district Rep. Francisco Paolo Ortega, and Zambales 1st district Rep. Jefferson Khonghun collectively described the summit as a "game-changer for regional cooperation and diplomacy".
The highlight of the three-nation summit is of course the trilateral meeting between US President Joe Biden, Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and President Marcos.
The meeting, which will take place in Washington DC on April 11 marks a big step in strengthening the economic ties of the three nations, promoting peace in the Indo-Pacific region, and enhancing cooperation on shared interests.
Nograles expressed confidence that the trilateral meeting would serve as a catalyst for fostering enhanced cooperation and prosperity, ultimately benefiting the citizens of the participating nations.
“This historic gathering presents a unique opportunity for our nations to collaborate on key issues that affect our shared interests and aspirations. I am confident that this summit will pave the way for enhanced cooperation and prosperity for our peoples,” she said.
For his part, Adiong highlighted the importance of dialogue and collaboration in addressing regional challenges.
“As representatives of our constituents, we applaud the efforts of our leaders to engage in constructive dialogue that aims to promote peace, stability, and economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region,” state the Mindanaoan.
Ortega agreed with his colleagues in that the trilateral summit would strengthen economic partnerships and enhance regional security.
“The coming together of these three leaders underscores the importance of strategic cooperation in addressing shared challenges and seizing opportunities for growth and development,” Ortega stated.
Meanwhile, Khonghun shared his optimism for the results of the summit. “As young leaders, we recognize the significance of multilateral engagements in shaping a more prosperous and secure future for our nations,” he said.
“This summit represents a crucial step towards deepening our ties and fostering greater understanding and cooperation among our citizens,” he added.
