Efforts underway for repatriation of OFW who died in UAE fire, DMW says
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is now working for the repatriation of the remains of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who died after a fire hit a residential tower in Sharjah City in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last week.
DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the cadaver of the OFW will be repatriated along with her husband who was severely injured but was already discharged from the hospital.
The OFW was among the five people who died in the blaze and Cacdac said the cause of death was severe inhalation of smoke.
Cacdac said there were 13 Filipinos inside the residential tower when the blaze occurred, including two children.
“The other Filipinos were unharmed and are now staying in a hotel. They are just waiting for the clearance to go back to the building,” said Cacdac.
Cacdac said President Marcos has already instructed the DMW to extend all the necessary assistance to all the Filipino victims in the UAE, as well as another OFW who was reported to have been injured in a fire in Hong Kong.
