Davao city gov’t aids 100 families displaced by fire


DAVAO CITY – More than 100 families affected by two fires here on Sunday, April 7, received relief and cash aid from Davao City Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte on Tuesday, April 9.

Rep. Duterte’s son, Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, led the distribution in Purok 25 and 26 Muslim Village and Purok 4 Seawall Bucana, all within Barangay 76-A.

The lawmaker distributed relief packs, containers, bottled water, and cash to 50 house owners, 23 sharers, 17 renters, 44 boarders, and two caretakers.

They were served 500 hot porridges (lugaw) and be provided packed lunch from Tuesday to Sunday, April 14.

Rigo, grateful for the people’s unwavering support for his father and the Duterte family, affirmed their commitment to delivering prompt assistance to families affected by unfortunate events.

Barangay 76-A Chairman Robert Olan-olan thanked Rep. Duterte for the support.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao said the first fire was recorded in Purok 26 and the second was in Purok 4.

Authorities said 474 individuals were affected and the city government temporarily sheltered them in a nearby covered court.

The Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) estimated the total damage to property at P4.3 million.

Chief Insp. Paul Jorge Barozzo, BFP-Davao spokesperson, urged the people here to practice fire safety and conduct maintenance of electrical connections through professionals.

BFP-Davao has logged 48 fire incidents here from January to February this year, most of them in residential areas.
