Alternergy, NGCP ink interconnection deal for Alabat wind project
Renewable energy (RE) developments in the Alabat Wind Power Project are in full swing, as the Alabat Wind Power Corp. (AWPC) signed an interconnection agreement with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
The agreement between the grid firm and the subsidiary of Alternergy Holdings Corp. stated an interconnection scheme for the wind project by evacuating its RE capacity through the 69 kilovolts (kV) Hondagua transmission line located in Lopez, Quezon.
According to Alternergy President Gerry P. Magbanua, the NGCP’s deal would boost the viability and timely completion of the Alabat wind project.
“The ICA signing is a huge breakthrough for the Alabat Wind Power Project. We are grateful to NGCP for boosting the project’s ability to meet its commitment to the Department of Energy [DOE] under the Green Energy Auction 2 [GEA 2] Program,” he said.
NGCP President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Almeda showed support to Alternergy and AWPC despite the challenges clean energy developers go through.
“We are pleased to work with Alternergy and AWPC to ensure that the renewable power capacity from the Alabat Wind Power Project will be delivered within its committed timeline,” Almeda shared.
“As the transmission network provider and system operator, NGCP strives to assist power project developers to bring the needed energy infrastructures that will bring forth socio-economic benefits to the country and help accelerate the energy transition goal of the government,” he added.
Developments are being made in the Alabat wind power project after receiving a Certificate of Confirmation of Commerciality (CoCoC) from the Department of Energy (DOE).
The clean energy firm also signed commercial contracts such as the wind turbine supply agreement and the balance of plant engineering, procurement, and construction.
Last month, Alternergy tapped Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. (GEDI) to be the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor.
The notice to proceed with construction is expected by this month, while the energy company is set to complete the project by next year.
