Philippine Red Cross equips youth with lifesaving skills; highlights women's contributions
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Saturday, March 9, held its 14th First Aid and Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Olympics in Valenzuela City.

Organized by its Valenzuela City chapter, the Olympics under the theme “Safety Starts with YOUth,” was made to empower the youth by teaching them how to properly give first aid to those in need, according to PRC.
It added that over 20 schools from the said city participated in the competition.

PRC Chairman Richard "Dick" Gordon and Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang applauded the initiative by the Valenzuela City chapter which was also attended by other members of the boards.
Recognizing women's contributions
Meanwhile, in celebration of women's contributions the humanitarian organization acknowledged the women's important role within its workforce, including volunteers, staff, and leaders in emergency response, ambulance teams, and health services.
"Behind every successful project or activity stands a woman," PRC Chairman Richard "Dick" Gordon said as he expressed his deep appreciation for all the women in the organization on March 8.
He added that the input of women in the PRC have dedicated themselves to ensuring that the voice of women is “heard and represented” in every dialogue and every step of planning the process of the PRC’s humanitarian agenda.
The PRC also highlighted its commitment to intensifying its Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) programs to address violence, discrimination, and exclusion in disaster response.
Notably, Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang was recognized for her leadership and the establishment of the Women's Action for Gender and Inclusion (WAGI) program.
“We invest in women. They are among those who step up and keep their families strong amid disaster or armed conflict," Pang said.
"We are committed to providing assistance and enhancing lifesaving skills for women, teens, elders, mothers, and the LGBTQ community,” she added.
