DOLE's new initiatives to promote gender equality, end violence vs women

In time for the celebration of the National Women’s Month this March, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has unveiled its Gender and Development (GAD) Agenda 2024-2028: Framework Strategic Plan aimed at advancing gender equality and eliminating violence against women in the organization.
The GAD agenda presents a strategic plan that outlines DOLE’s goals, desired outcomes, and a structure for assessing and reviewing the responsiveness of its programs towards gender concerns, Labor Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma said in a statement issued on the National Women’s Day on Friday, March 8.
The DOLE also launched its own chapter of Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE) as male employees within the department were urged to actively participate in efforts to prevent all types of harassment, violence, and discrimination against women and girls.
"Tayong mga kalalakihan ay magiging aktibong katuwang upang wakasan ang iba’t ibang uri ng diskriminasyon, panliligalig, at karahasan sa lahat ng lugar, ito man po ay sa ating mga tahanan, paaralan, sa ating mga tanggapan, sa mga pagawaan, at sa ating lipunan (Men will actively collaborate to put an end to various forms of discrimination, harassment, and violence in every setting, including our homes, schools, workplaces, factories, and society as a whole)," Labor Undersecretary Benjo Santos M. Benavidez.
"Batayang karapatan ng bawat isang mamamayan ang maging malaya sa ano mang porma ng pang-aabuso at karahasan sa mundo ng trabaho (Every individual has the fundamental entitlement to be exempt from all types of mistreatment and aggression within the realm of employment)," he added.
The department's new initiatives are aimed at supporting the Marcos administration's vision of a "Bagong Pilipinas," according to Laguesma.
Further, the labor chief stressed the imperative of advocating for gender equality while also highlighting the significance of commencing the eradication of violence and discriminatory practices within households.
“Dapat hindi lang sa pamamagitan ng paglalagda sa dokumento at pagsasalita na tayo po ay kabahagi sa pagsusulong ng karapatan at kapakanan ng mga kababaihan, dapat din siguro kagaya ng ating ginagawang panunumpa, dapat ay ating isaisip, isapuso, at isagawa (Not only should we affix our signatures to the document and verbally declare our commitment to advancing women's rights and well-being, but we should also internalize the pledge, embrace it wholeheartedly, and actively fulfill it)," he said.
