The construction of a high-impact tourism road project in Dinagat Islands is being expedited by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to further boost the tourism industry and marine economy in the province.
DPWH Regional Office 13 Director Pol M. Delos Santos said an access road project in the Municipality of Cagdianao is being implemented by the DPWH Dinagat Islands District Engineering Office (DEO) and extends 3.3 kilometers.
Delos Santos said the P282 million multi-year project involves the construction and improvement of Barangay Del Pilar via Barangay Nueva Strella Road, providing an easy and secure means for more tourists to explore Cagdianao's attractive spots, including the Pilar Dam and Hinabyan Beach
The DPWH Dinagat Islands DEO has recently concreted 140 lineal meters of the road with drainage and slope protection structures along the access road, bringing the total length of the access road to 928 meters as of December 2023.
In 2024, an initial P5 million was allocated to begin the first stages of abutment construction for a 70-meter bridge component linking Barangay Del Pilar to Barangay Nueva Strella Road.
