Army eyes collection of 50,000 blood bags during 2-day drive

The Philippine Army (PA) is targeting to collect 50,000 blood bags during a two-day blood donation drive which kicked off on Friday, March 8.
PA Chief, Lt. Gen. Roy Galido said the drive is geared towards sustaining an ample blood supply to address the demand for blood as a life-saving fluid for Army personnel.
It also ensures the need for sufficient blood reserves during large-scale force mobilization in times of emergency, he added.
Galido further highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle among soldiers as donors including Army officers, enlisted personnel, reservists, Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) cadets, as well as those from civilian agencies and other uniformed services participated in the blood donation drive simultaneously held in various military camps.
In Metro Manila, the blood donation drive was held at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
“Be reminded that our health is important not only today as active military personnel but also after our military service,” Galido said.
The donation drive also aims to contribute to the country’s blood reserves, and has a respective 70 percent to 30 percent distribution rate for the public and the Philippine Army.
