3 dead, 1 hurt in tricycle-dump truck collision

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte – Three persons died and a driver was injured after a dump truck loaded with sand rammed a tricycle in Barangay 23, Santa Cecilia, this town, before noon on Friday, March 8.

Police identified the fatalities as Michael Jay Layugan, 33, tricycle driver, and passengers Ricky Lumboy, 20, and Noel Corpuz.

Police Major Eduardo Santos, town chief of police, said Jerwin Mercado, 48, lost control of the dump truck’s steering wheel and hit the tricycle turning left.

The tricycle then crashed into a parked tricycle parked on the road shoulder.

The fatalities were buried in sand and taken to the nearest hospital but they died on the way.

Mercado was injured and taken to the hospital. He faces a case of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and damage to property.
