House Speaker Martin Romualdez has assured the families of the slain and wounded Filipino seafarers from the Houthi rebel attack in the Gulf of Aden that the Marcos administration will swiftly provide them the help that they need.
Thus, said Romualdez in a statement Thursday night, March 7, a few hours after the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed the attack.
The agency said that a ballistic missile hit M/V True Confidence in the Gulf of Aden. The attack, which was the first fatal assault by the Iran-backed militant group in the Red Sea, resulted in the deaths of at least three crew members, including two Filipino nationals, and severe injuries to two other Filipino crewmen.
“We stand in solidarity with President Marcos, the [DMW] and the Filipino seafarers affected by this heartbreaking incident. It is imperative that we extend all possible assistance to the families of the victims and ensure that the injured receive the necessary medical care and support,” Romualdez said.
“Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the Filipino seafarers who lost their lives in this senseless and tragic attack. Their dedication and sacrifices while serving aboard the M/V True Confidence will always be remembered and honored," he noted.

“We call for a comprehensive investigation into this heinous attack and urge the international community to condemn these cowardly acts of violence,” Romualdez said.
“The safety and security of Filipino seafarers must remain a top priority, and we must work together to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future," added the Leyte 1st district congressman.
"We assure the families of the victims and the Filipino people that the government will spare no effort in ensuring that justice is served and that measures are in place to safeguard the well-being of our overseas Filipino workers,” said the Speaker.
