The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested two men for illegal possession of firearm and other charges in Quezon City on Wednesday, March 6.

Police identified the apprehended suspects as Wilfredo Mercado, 32, a resident of Caloocan City, and Darwin Dimaano, 54, a resident of Quezon City.
Based on the police report, the personnel of District Tactical Mobile Unit (DTMU) were conducting a checkpoint operation at Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City, when they spotted the suspects on a motorcycle without helmets and a visible plate number.
The suspects evaded arrest and eventually lost control of their motorcycle during the hot pursuit operation.
Dimaano was found to be in possession of a loaded caliber .38 revolver which was tucked on his waist.
A further verification revealed that Dimaano failed to present the necessary documents for his firearm, while Mercado also failed to present his driver’s license and motorcycle registration leading to their apprehension.
Recovered from the suspects were one caliber .38 revolver with four live ammunition and a motorcycle.
The suspects will face charges for violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) or the resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, Republic Act 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009, and R.A. 11235 or the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act.
In addition, Mercado will face charges for violating R.A. 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, while Dimaano will face charges under R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
QCPD chief Brig. Gen. Redrico A Maranan commended the swift and decisive action taken by the DTMU personnel in apprehending the suspects.
He also praised their commitment to upholding the law and in ensuring the safety of the community.
