Marcos to visit Germany, Czech Republic from March 11-15

After his consecutive visits to Australia this month, President Marcos is set to embark on a two-country visit to Europe from March 11 to 15, Malacañang confirmed.

President Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos were invited by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for a Working Visit to Germany. Marcos confirmed this trip in January this year during his meeting with German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
In January, Marcos said his trip to Berlin materialized after months of trying to settle on a date. He added that the relationship between the Philippines and Germany would improve after his visit.
"I'm sure that, after the visit to Berlin, many things will develop. We will require your presence here more and more," he told the top German diplomat.
The late former president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III was the last Philippine president to visit Berlin. This was part of his four-country swing in Europe in September 2014.
The Philippines will commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Germany this year.
Meanwhile, President Marcos' State Visit to the Czech Republic was upon the invitation of Czech President Petr Pavel.
While in Prague, he will meet Pavel and three other heads of the Czech government — Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Senate President MiloÅ¡ VystrÄil, and President of the Chamber of Deputies Markéta Pekarová Adamová.
President Marcos' trip to the two Central European nations follows the visits to Manila of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala in April 2023 and German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in January 2024.
A statement from Malacañang stated that Marcos' upcoming European trip "seeks to strengthen bilateral relations and foster increased cooperation with the two nations."
In addition to meeting top leaders, the President will meet with prominent business leaders to bolster trade and investment opportunities.
He will also have the opportunity to meet with the Filipino communities in Germany and the Czech Republic to share his administration's plans and programs for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and reaffirm the Philippine government's commitment to supporting Filipinos worldwide.
So far, President Marcos has made 23 visits to 15 countries since he assumed the presidency in 2022.
