New K-drama 'The Tyrant' set for release this year

“The Tyrant,” a new Korean series starring Jo Yoon-su, Cha Seoung-won, Kim Seon-ho and Kim Kang-woo will be coming to Disney+ later this year. 

In the series, a game-changing bioenhancer is stolen during a secret handover between Korean and US intelligence agencies, forcing the two governments to work together and race to recover it.

After years of toiling away on a secret project designed to drastically enhance human abilities, the Korean government’s plan is exposed by the US intelligence agencies. Furious about being kept in the dark, the US demands all samples be handed over and the project be immediately shut down. But when the covert handover is attacked by an unknown party, agents from both sides will have to work together to avoid the dangerous new formula to fall into the wrong hands.

“The Tyrant” ("폭군") is headlined by Jo Yoon-su (“True Beauty,” “Juvenile Justice”) as skilled infiltrator Chae Jagyeong; Cha Seoung-won (“Our Blues,” “A Korean Odyssey”) as cold-blooded mercenary Lim Sang; Kim Seon-ho (“Start-Up,” “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha”) as Director Choe, the leader of the secret Korean project; and Kim Kang-woo (“Le Grand Chef,” “Goodbye Mr. Black”) as US intelligence agent Pau.  It is written and directed by Park Hoon-jung (“New World,” “The Witch: Part 1 & 2”).

Fans of Korean content can enjoy immediate access to other exciting Korean dramas on Disney+ including “Moving,” a story about South Korean special agents working to protect their super-powered children from harm and exploitation at the hands of malicious government agencies; “The Worst Of Evil,” which tells the story of an undercover detective who infiltrates a dangerous new gang; and the award-winning series “Big Bet,” starring legendary actor Choi Minsik as a serial entrepreneur who repeatedly crosses the line to help bolster his burgeoning casino business; and countless other thrilling Korean and international titles.

 “The Tyrant” will stream later this year exclusively on Disney+.
