The CBCP said that Bishop Luisito Occiano was chosen by Pope Francis last Feb. 29.

He will succeed retired Bishop Manolo de los Santos, who served the Virac diocese for nearly three decades.

Currently, the church said Occiano serves as the rector and parish priest of the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Joseph in Camarines Sur province’s San Jose town.

He is also the director of the Caceres Commission on Communication.

In the meantime, De los Santos has been appointed as the diocese's apostolic administrator until Occiano's installation.

Archbishop Emeritus Rolando Tria Tirona of Caceres will ordain Occiano to the episcopate, with Archbishop Charles Brown and Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana serving as co-consecrators.

In Virac, Archbishop-elect Rex Andrew Alarcon will install him in his seat at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.

Alarcon is also set to lead the Caceres archdiocese starting on May 2.
