Malapitan wants 'no collection policy' in Caloocan public schools
Caloocan City Mayor Dale “Along” Malapitan said on Wednesday, March 6, that he will not tolerate any inappropriate actions of officials in public schools.
Malapitan made the statement after the Department of Education (DepEd) sent a formal charge against a school official in the city, who required the students to buy worksheets.
“I will not tolerate it and will support any appropriate actions/penalties,” Malapitan said.
The public school official allegedly required students to pay P60 for worksheets and booklets needed for their learning recovery classes.
Malapitan also clarified that the School Division Office (SDO) has not received a suspension order against the the school official.
“As per our Schools Division Office (SDO), wala pa silang natatanggap na suspension order kundi formal charge pa lang (they have not received yet a suspension order but only a formal charge),” he said.
“Rerespetuhin po ng LGU ang magiging mga hakbang ng DepEd at ng SDO hinggil sa usaping ito (The LGU will respect the next steps of the DepEd and the SDO regarding this matter),” he added.
Malapitan also said that he is hopeful that the investigation will be concluded soon.
“Gayunpaman, umaasa po ako na mabilis na matapos ang imbestigasyon upang mabigyang linaw ang usaping ito (However, I hope that the investigation will be completed quickly to clarify this matter),” he said.
Mayor Along also urged the school officials to implement the “no collection policy”.
“Nakikiusap din po ako sa lahat ng teachers and principals na mahigpit na ipatupad ang 'no collection policy' sa lahat ng pampublikong paaralan (I am also appealing to teachers and principals to strictly implement the 'no collection policy' in all public schools),” he said.
The city government will remain committed to supporting the SDO and all the public schools in the city to pursue quality education.
