2 alleged cohorts of gunman who shot Makati cop nabbed
Police arrested on Tuesday, March 5, two alleged cohorts of a gunman who shot and wounded a police officer in Makati City last month.
Makati police identified arrested suspects as alias “Mark” and “Christian”.
Police said the two suspects were arrested in connection with a shooting incident that occurred along Don Chino Roces Avenue near Malolos Street in Barangay Tejeros, Makati City, on Feb. 25, at around 11:50 p.m.
Prior to the incident, personnel of the Makati Police Poblacion Substation were conducting a surveillance around the area when they noticed four suspicious men on board two motorcycles without plate numbers roaming along Makati Avenue.
The police secretly tailed the suspects but the riders noticed that they were being followed. One of the motorcycles with a back rider wearing an Angkas immediately fled towards Buendia Avenue.
Authorities followed the two other motorcycle riders heading to JP Rizal Avenue. Upon reaching Don Chino Roces Avenue, the suspects were stalled in a traffic jam.
The police officers were about to approach the suspects for verification, but the back rider suddenly fired his gun and hit one officer in the left leg. The suspects immediately fled.
On Feb. 26, the police conducted a dragnet operation along Chino Roces Avenue corner Buendia Avenue in Barangay Pio Del Pilar, Makati, where they flagged down a motorcycle driven by a man wearing a ride-hailing application uniform, with a back rider wearing a red shirt, which matched the descriptions of the companions of the suspects who shot the officer.
During the verification process, the police recovered from the riders a .38-caliber revolver loaded with three live ammunition, and a 13-inch kitchen knife. This prompted the lawmen to arrest them.
The arrested suspects are now detained in Makati Police Station and facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and illegal possession of a bladed weapon.
Meanwhile, the injured police officer is now in stable condition.
Makati police said they are still conducting a manhunt operation for the for the two other suspects, including the gunman who shot the police officer.
