P500,000 reward dangled for info vs gunmen of 3 village execs


TACLOBAN CITY – The provincial government and the Police Regional Office-8 (Eastern Visayas) have offered a P500,000 reward for information that would lead to the arrest of the gunmen of a barangay chairman, kagawad (councilor), and a barangay tanod (watchman) in Barangay Daja Diot, San Isidro, Leyte.

The Leyte Police Provincial Office has formed the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Daja Diot to conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting of Barangay Chairman Elizalde Tabon, Councilor Paulo Mendero, and tanod Rusty Salazar on February 24 in the barangay hall. 

The task group also aims to implement measures aimed at restoring peace and security to the affected community.

“The LPPO is committed to working tirelessly alongside other law enforcement agencies, local government units, and concerned stakeholders to ensure that justice is served and that the safety and well-being of every citizen in Leyte, especially in the third district, are safeguarded,” said Leyte provincial police chief Police Col. Erwin Portillo.

Police Col. Salvador Alacyang, PRO-8 deputy regional director for operations and SITG head, directed each member of the task group to expedite the gathering of more pieces of evidence to identify and indict the suspects. 

Additional personnel from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8, Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the Philippine Army have been deployed to assist in police operations, checkpoints, police presence, and patrolling in the  municipality.  

The Barangay Intelligence Network has also been mobilized to aid in providing information relative to the incident.
