Motorcycle rider killed by dump truck in Lipa City

LIPA CITY, Batangas – A 21-year-old  motorcycle rider died after he was run over by a dump truck in Barangay Iniskuban here on Monday morning, March 4.

Police identified the victim as Rubeck Naval, a gasoline station attendant, of Barangay Sabang, this city.

A cellphone video taken by a motorist showed that Naval was on the right side waiting to cross the JP Laurel Highway and Lipa City Diversion Road when he was hit by the right front wheel of dump truck which was turning right into the diversion road.

The victim lost balance and fell in front of the dump truck.

Naval was dragged for about 20 meters and the dump truck driver, Joel Reyes, 40, from Batangas City, only stopped when bystanders shouted and pointed out that he had hit someone.

The victim was taken to the Metro Lipa Medical Center where he died from severe injuries.

Reyes is under the custody of the Lipa City police station and faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to properties.

He said he did not notice the victim because he was in the blind spot of his truck.
