Bong Revilla prays for harmony amid rumored Senate coup

Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla prayed for harmony as he led the Senate’s opening prayer during the plenary session on Tuesday, March 5.

In his prayer, Revilla asked the Lord to replace all bitterness brought by misunderstanding and let it be coated with peace and unity to better serve the country with honesty.

He also prayed for God to create peace among all the rifts to remove any misunderstanding that prevented His sacred plans for the country.

"Panginoon, ipaalala po Ninyo na tao ang-luklok sa amin; at ang pagsulong ng interes ng taumbayan ang mananatiling dahilan kung bakit kami naririto - higit sa kung ano pa man (God, remind us that it's the people who voted for us; and pursuing their interests will always be the reason why we're here - more than anything else)," he said.

"Hayaan Niyo pong maging aral ang hapdi ng galos sa halip na maging mitsa ng pagkakawatak-watak (Let the pain of wounds serve as a lesson and not a spark of division)," he said.

There have been rumors buzzing of Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri being replaced by another senior lawmaker in the Upper House—in particular, Sen. Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada.

Some senators on Monday, March 4 confirmed their utmost support for Zubiri’s leadership by signing a resolution or statement of support.

At least 14 signatures of senators are needed to stabilize Zubiri’s leadership. So far, 14 senators, have confirmed support for him.

In a statement, Zubiri said that he is "deeply humbled" by his colleagues’ continued trust in his leadership of the Senate.

"I always say that I serve at the pleasure of my colleagues, and with their strong show of support, I am emboldened to press on as Senate President," he added.

Zubiri thanked his fellow Senators who already signed the statement of support, as well as those who have signified intent to sign it as well.

"Ang suporta nilang lahat ay marka ng isang matatag na Senado, hindi natitinag ng anumang ingay, at palaging nagkakaisa sa aming paglilingkod sa bayan (Their support is mark of a strong Senate, not swayed by any noise, and always uniting to serve the country)," he said.
