Diaz assumed the position during a change-of-command ceremony presided over by Police Regional Office-9 Director Police Brig. Gen. Bowenn Masauding at the Zamboanga City police headquarters.
Guest of honor was Mayor John Dalipe here.
A teary-eyed Lorenzo, who was assigned to a post at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City, thanked everyone who supported him during his stint.
Diaz welcomed the challenge and the responsibility of heading the ZCPO and cited a two-pronged strategy to combat criminality and lawlessness.
He served as the PRO-9 chief of the Regional Operations Division prior to his appointment here.
Diaz served as Zamboanga del Norte police chief after the demise of Police Col. Rodrigo Maramo on August 3, 2022.
Diaz inspected police stations and paid a courtesy call on Dalipe at the Zamboanga City Hall after the ceremony.
Officers and personnel of the ZCPO thanked Lorenzo in a social media post. “Your guidance, wisdom, and insight have been priceless that gave us enough motivation and inspiration in our day-to-day works and activities. Thank you for your bright direction and initiatives that contributed significantly in peacekeeping, and thus, kept Zamboanga City a safer place to live in,” they said in the post.
