A late substitute to the fight, Amparo looked to be holding his own against Shigeoka in the opening round before succumbing to a wicked left to the body that sent him kneeling in pain to the canvas.
Amparo tried to catch his breath and recover but couldn’t muster enough strength to beat the count, ultimately ending the fight at the 1:55 mark of the second frame.
Shigeoka successfully defended his title for the first time while also preserving his perfect 11-0 record with nine knockouts.
Amparo, on the other hand, fell to 14-6-1 record with three knockouts after suffering his second straight defeat after also losing to compatriot Pedro Taduran in hometown Tagbilaran City in Bohol.
The Filipino fighter only had days to prepare for the fight after taking over the place of the Shigeoka’s original challenger in ArAr Andales who withdrew from the contest due to medical reasons.
Still, Amparo showed promise in the first round, occasionally landing right hooks to the head of the Japanese champion.
The Filipino even had one judge Daniel Sandoval scoring 10-9 to his favor at the end of the opening frame while other judges Adam Height and Carl Zappia gave the round to Shigeoka.
