Holy Week Operation 2024: Philippine Red Cross caters to over 5,100 individuals


The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), on Sunday, March 31, noted that it has assisted thousands of individuals during this Holy Week.

According to PRC, as of noon, it has assisted a total of 5,108 individuals nationwide.

The Holy Week Operation started on March 24, and it has taken the vital signs (blood pressure) of 4,775 individuals.

PRC responded to major cases that included abdominal pain, body weakness, cardiac arrest, chest pain, contusion in the head, deep laceration, drowning, elevated BP, fainting, fracture, multiple abrasion, and seizure.

Individuals experiencing minor cases such as abrasion, abdominal pain, allergy, animal bite, body weakness, blister, bruise, burn, cramps, concussion, dizziness, dysmenorrhea, fainting, headache, hypertension, hyperventilation, laceration, loss of consciousness, lump, nape pain, neck pain, nosebleed, numbness, shortness of breath, sprain, sting, stomach ache, and vomiting were also attended by the PRC.

The humanitarian organization even transported 20 individuals to hospitals experiencing abrasion or laceration on extremities, body pain, deep abrasions and laceration, drowning, fever, hypoxemia, heat exhaustion, loss of consciousness, seizure, severe itchiness, severe leg pain, and shortness of breath.

The PRC also provided vital support for 58 individuals who experienced emotional distress, offering psychosocial first aid and helping reunite people who got separated from their companions.

Moreover, to ensure it could reach as many people as possible, the PRC set up first aid stations in different locations.

As of updated data, PRC first aid stations were established in 82 churches, 58 along roads and highways, 23 chapters, 23 on beaches, 18 in terminals, 19 in pilgrimage, 11 in the mountains, eight in piers and seaports, six each in parks, pools, and rivers, six in gas stations, three each in events place, barangay halls, and malls, and one each in airport, gymnasium, and public market.

It has been noted that the PRC deployed 178 ambulances, 242 first aid stations, 45 welfare stations, and 21-foot patrols with 2,161 staff and volunteers.
