LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Four individuals drowned in Southern Luzon during the Holy Week.
San Jose, Batangas
A 32-year-old laborer drowned in a creek in Barangay Mojon Tampoy, San Jose, Batangas, on Good Friday.
The victim, Joshua Planas, and five friends went to the creek for a drinking session.
They swam on the creek and went home but failed to realize that the victim was left behind due to their intoxicated state.
They only realized that the victim was missing when they failed to see him home.
Authorities looked for the victim who was found in the 800-meter deep part of the creek.
Lian, Batangas
A 24-year-old driver drowned while snorkeling in the sea of Barangay Matabungkay, Lian, Batangas, on Black Saturday.
Police identified the victim as John Lloyd Lavela from Caloocan City.
Investigation said the victim and his friends rented a boat to go snorkeling in the middle of the sea.
Lavela removed his life vest but experienced shortness of breath while diving and drowned.
The victim was found and taken by rescuers to a hospital in Nasugbu, Batangas where he was declared dead.
Meanwhile, two minors drowned in Mulanay and Mauban towns in Quezon on Black Saturday.
Police identified the victims as Sophia, from Mulanay, and Richmark, 3, of Mauban.
