The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) assured the public that safety measures and intensified preparations were in place to ensure law and order in its jail-manned facilities nationwide this Holy Week.
The BJMP noted that it has implemented a series of proactive measures to preempt any potential incidents within the jail facilities.
"All BJMP-manned facilities will be placed on high alert status, bolstering vigilance and readiness," the BJMP said.
In recognition of the PDLs’ "spiritual needs," the BJMP has collaborated with religious leaders to organize various activities, including Holy Mass, recollections and religious processions.
But the BJMP stressed that the PDLs are prohibited from practicing self-flagellation to safeguard their health and well-being.
"Furthermore, ensuring the uninterrupted provision of essential supplies such as food, water, and medical necessities remains a top priority for the BJMP," it added.
The BJMP stated that jail visitation remains ongoing to provide the PDL families with the opportunity to visit their loved ones during this period.
BJMP chief Jail Director Ruel Rivera has issued directives to all personnel to exercise heightened security measures throughout the Holy Week. He emphasized the importance of proactive measures to prevent any untoward incidents within the facilities.
Additionally, Rivera tasked the jail wardens to oversee the preparedness of jails, including measures to address summer-related health concerns.
The BJMP chief also underscored the collective responsibility in ensuring a safe and peaceful observance of Holy Week, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and diligence across all the 482 BJMP jail facilities in the country.
