Philippine Red Cross turns over 71 solar-powered houses to 'Odette' victims
ALEGRIA, Cebu – The Philippine Red Cross has turned over 71 solar-powered houses to victims of typhoon "Odette" in this town.

RED Cross Chairman Richard J. Gordon (fourth from left) spearheads the inauguration of 71 solar-powered houses to 'Odette' victims in Alegria, Cebu.
PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard J. Gordon said that the PRC was the organization that provided the most assistance when Odette struck the nation in 2021.
"I'm very happy and proud that I am here today. I am happy that you are all here, have new homes with solar panels that will provide you free electricity and a very nice view of the sea, and have overcome the challenges from Odette),” he said during the turnover on March 26 in the Red Cross Village in Barangay Poblacion.
These houses that cost about P32 million to build under the Full Shelter Assistance project were made possible through the collaborative efforts of the PRC, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the local government of Alegria.
“Buhay na buhay ang turismo rito sa Alegria because you have a great Hon. In fact, the PRC provided the most assistance when Odette struck the Philippines – P600 million nationwide, P110 million for Cebu, and almost P1 billion to other province affected by calamities and the pandemic),” he added.
“Huwag kayong mawawalan ng pag-asa dahil kasama ninyo at kasangga ang Philippine Red Cross. Mahalaga kayo sa amin (Don’t lose hope because the PRC is always by your side),” said Gordon.
The project focuses not only in this province but also in Bohol that was also severely affected by Odette. The PRC turned over 70 full shelters in Talibon last May.
Odette was the strongest tropical cyclone that struck the Philippines three years ago.
More than half of the five million population of this province was affected by the disaster according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) stated that the capital Cebu City sustained damage to infrastructure, utilities, and agriculture totaling P1.7 billion.
