NAIA Terminal 2 suffers 3-hour power outage, MIAA apologizes

The Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) experienced on Wednesday, March 27, more than three hours of limited power supply due to a series of power fluctuations, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said.
MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines said the power outage affected the air handling units at the departure area.
Ines said he immediately ordered an investigation into the matter and based on the initial result, it was determined that the terminal circuit breaker kept tripping due to high power loads caused by the elevated heat index outside the terminal.
“Despite this disruption, normal operations continued at check-in counters, passenger boarding bridges, baggage handling systems, and security screening facilities. No flight delays or cancellations were reported as a result of the incident,” said Ines.
The power outage lasted for three hours and 16 minutes and Ines said industrial fans were strategically positioned throughout the area to provide relief to passengers and airline staff.
Additionally, he said bottled water was also provided to the passengers.
“We extends our sincere apologies to the riding public for the inconvenience caused by the incident and reassures them that comprehensive maintenance efforts will be undertaken to proactively prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future,” said Ines.
