'Bubur Lambuk' Diplomacy

The Embassy of Malaysia, in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan and as part of the celebrations of the 60th year of bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Philippines, cooked up a storm and introduced the local community to 'bubur lambuk' on March 18, 2024. This program is in collaboration with Perwakilan Manila, Berjaya Hotel Makati, and Maybank Philippines.

The embassy's chef, Ammar Syafiq Ayob, prepared the dish at the Official Residence together with the staff and spouses of the Embassy as well as kitchen personnel of Berjaya Hotel Makati.

"Bubur Lambuk" is a hearty porridge made with rice, meat, spices, and various vegetables, and is often distributed to the public during Ramadan. The recipe includes a variety of spices such as cinnamon, star anise, and cardamom, giving the porridge a warm, fragrant aroma. The dish may also be made with chicken, beef, or lamb, depending on personal preference.

The embassy is honored to then share the "bubur lambuk" with President Ferdinand Bong Bong Marcos Jr., secretaries, senators, congressmen, senior government officials, and friends of Malaysia.

The Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines, H.E Dato' Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, hopes that this initiative will not only promote cultural exchange but also provide an opportunity for people to come together and enjoy a delicious meal. To be able to share Malaysian traditional cuisine with the local community is also a wonderful way to celebrate the essence of Ramadan, the spirit of togetherness and share our cultural heritage with others which encapsulates the embassy's aim of "bubur lambuk" diplomacy.
