The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) is prepared for a pertussis or whooping cough outbreak.
Caesar Distrito, spokesperson of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez, said the CHO is trained in case of any eventuality, adding that this city’s massive vaccination program against pertussis continues.

Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Distrito said this city has no confirmed case of pertussis, but they received information about a suspected case here.
According to the CHO, the patient, a two-month-old baby girl, who is not from this city, was admitted in a private hospital here early this month, and was discharged last week.
Distrito said they are awaiting the result of the confirmatory test of the case.
While this city is on alert against this respiratory illness, Distrito encouraged the public to refrain exposing children to crowded places.
