Angeles City gov’t conducting drug tests among village execs, staff


ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – The city government announced the conduct of a drug test among 6,670 barangay officials and workers in the 33 barangays here.

THE Angeles City government is conducting a drug test among barangay officials and personnel.

Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. held a surprise drug test on 816 officials and workers in Barangay Malabanias on Monday, March 25, thru the Anti-Drug Abuse Council headed by Ricky Saul. 

“Ang ginagawa nating ito ay bahagi po ng ating programa kontra droga (The drug test is part of our campaign against drugs),” Lazatin said.

“Ito rin po ay upang masiguro na walang droga sa hanay ng mga nanunungkulan at nagtatrabaho sa ating 33 barangays (The drug tests will also ensure that nobody among the barangay officials and workers in the 33 barangays are using illegal drugs),” Lazatin added. 

A working committee has been formed to conduct the drug tests. It is composed of Lazatin’s chief adviser IC Calaguas, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, the City Health Office led by Dr. Verona Guevarra, the Tourism Auxiliary headed by Michael Lising, Gender and Development Office led by Mina Cabiles, Economic Development Investment and Promotions Office headed by Irish Bonus-Llego, and the Barangay Affairs and Public Assistance Center. 

Meanwhile, six suspected drug pushers were arrested in buy-bust operations conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Barangay Balibago here on Tuesday night, March 26.

The suspects were identified as Stephanie Emaas, 33; Michael Maghinay, 40; Jasmin Clemente, 52; Steven James Simpson, 41; Rebel Carlo Tungkol, 32, and Jericho Madrique, 36. 

Seized from them were suspected shabu worth a total of P184,000 and drug paraphernalia. 

The suspects had been under surveillance for a week prior to their arrest. 

Confiscated shabu will be taken to the PDEA laboratory in Central Luzon for examination.
