- Estrella is now looking forward to her international campaign when she sees action in Malaysia in June as a sort of preparation before defending her title in the 2024 World OCR Championships in Costa Rica in August.
Andrea Estrella is looking to empower and encourage more women as she continues her quest as a national team para athlete.

The 19-year-old visually impaired national team member, who claimed a gold medal win in the OCR World Championships in Genk, Belgium in September last year, recently joined the Watsons Women’s Run held at the SM Mall of Asia Complex for its International Women’s Month celebration.
And what better way to celebrate women in all their glory by showcasing their strength.
Estrella displayed her impressive running form after finishing a 5-kilometer run in 35 minutes – a personal best record since she started becoming a professional para athlete.
“Running is really part of the obstacle course. We were told that runs will be eighty percent of our effort while twenty percent will be the obstacle. So we need to incorporate running, speed, endurance, strength in everyday training,” she said.
In Belgium, Estrella, who debuted with the national team last year topped the OCR 100M P5 event while also landing herself a spot in the podium of the 3K Short Course P5 category.
“Events like these are so impactful. As a woman, now is the time for us to strengthen our presence in whatever field we are a part of. The misconception is that women are weak, but this campaign aims to correct that,” she said.
“When you’re a woman, [so many factors] limit what you can do. So for me, this special event impacts me a great deal.”
