Ayala Museum marked the triumphant conclusion of the “Splendor: Juan Luna, Painter as Hero” exhibition by hosting an exclusive concert for its sponsors, partners, and collaborators on March 21, 2024, at the museum in Makati.
Titled “Universelle,” the event presented the Manila Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Marlon Chen, highlighting classical music including Claude de Bussy’s “Claire de Lune,” Erik Satie’s “Trois Gymnopedie no. 3,” Maurice Ravel’s “Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte,” Julio Nakpil’s “Salve Patria,” and Stephan Koncz’s “A New Satiesfaction,” among others.

US Ambassador H.E. MaryKay Carlson, Mayor Abby Binay, Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI) Chairman Fernando Zóbel de Ayala, León Gallery Founder and Director Jaime Ponce de Leon, Ayala Museum Senior Director Mariles Gustilo, AFI President Tony Lambino, Ayala Corporation Head of Brand and Reputation Management Catherine Bengzon, and National Museum Director-General Jeremy Barns were in attendance.

“2023 was a stellar year for Ayala Museum primarily because of [Splendor], setting record-breaking attendance...[and] prompting widespread and timely conversation about heroes, national pride, history, and nationhood, from the contentious to the sublime,” said Gustilo.

“Splendor [brought] to the fore a long-lost masterpiece, catalyzing public discourse on our rich artistic and cultural treasures. Luna’s work is yet another reminder that Filipino talent and creativity are worth global recognition. The legacy of Juan Luna in global excellence is broadly shared today by many young Juans and Marias,” added Lambino.

In anticipation of the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood, Ponce de Leon loaned Ayala Museum the pivotal artwork of “Hymen, oh Hyménée!” The exhibit ran for nine months from June 12, 2023 to March 24, 2024.
