19 areas log ‘dangerous’ heat indices on March 27


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, March 27 said “dangerous” heat indices were recorded in 19 areas across the country.

The highest recorded heat index on Wednesday was 48°C in Roxas City, Capiz, followed by 47°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

A heat index of 45°C was also experienced in Puerto Princesa City and Aborlan town, both in Palawan.

Meanwhile, a heat index of 44°C was registered at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) station in Pasay, City; Sangley Point, Cavite; and at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture Station in Pili, Camarines Norte.

It also recorded a heat index of 43°C in Iloilo City, Iloilo; Coron, Palawan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Masbate City, Masbate; and Virac, Catanduanes. 

PAGASA said a heat index of 42°C was felt in Iba, Zambales; Cubi Pt. Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Dumangas, Iloilo; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; Davao City, Davao del Sur; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao. 

A heat index of 42 to 51°C (dangerous level) can lead to heat exhaustion and heat cramps, while there is a chance for heat stroke during continuous activity.
