“More police personnel were deployed to secure Caraganons, guests, and tourists during Lent in our region,” PRO 13-Regional Public Information Office (RPIO) chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said.
The PRO-13 deployed an additional 1,754 policemen in the region, said Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft.
“As part of our security measures, we are deploying more troops on the streets to secure devotees and vacationers who are expected to gather in churches and other places of worship until March 31,” the PRO-13 head said.
Kraft has inspected and checked the deployment of police officers in Butuan City where most of the terminals, ports, and commercial areas in this region are located.
“I implore for the cooperation and support of every peace-loving citizen for a safe and secure observance of the Holy Week,” Kraft said, adding: “Let us use this time in reflecting and fulfilling our spiritual needs.”
Police are working alongside the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), watchmen (tanods), and other concerned government and non-government agencies as part of overall security.
“Our force multipliers were already tapped to help our overall goal in peace, harmony, and orderly Lenten Week observance and summer break,” Ometer said.
