In a statement on Tuesday, March 26, PhilHealth said that the funds to be received from PCSO will be instrumental in improving various benefit packages.

These include those related to critical medical interventions such as post-kidney transplant, breast cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, open-heart surgery for children, physical medicine, and rehabilitation, and rationalization of selected medical and surgical procedures.

It noted that the amount will initially be remitted to the Bureau of Treasury (BTr) as part of PCSO's mandatory contribution for the fourth quarter of 2023.

These funds will be released to PhilHealth through the General Appropriations Act, ensuring transparent and accountable utilization for the benefit of the Filipino people.

The Health Insurer highlighted that Based on Rule IX, Section 37(c) of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 11223, also known as the Universal Health Care Act of 2019, PCSO is mandated to allocate 40 percent of its Charity Fund towards enhancing PhilHealth's benefit packages.

PhilHealth highlighted that the check was formally handed over to PhilHealth's Chief for the Investment Division of the Treasury Department Ma. Lourdes V. Naguit by PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles.

The event, witnessed by PhilHealth Fiscal Controller IV Melody A. Planillo, signals a collaborative effort to bolster the nation's healthcare infrastructure.
