The Manila Police District (MPD) is hunting down the man who mauled his 81-year-old grandfather to death in Sta. Ana, Manila on Monday night, March 25. 

MPD identified the suspect as Reymark Tanghal, 27, a resident of Barangay 770, Sta. Ana, Manila.

Authorities said that the suspect's father and the victim, Jesus Rivera, had a heated argument in front of the victim's house at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. 

A witness said during the argument, the suspect suddenly punched his grandfather several times, causing the latter to fall head first on the ground.

The victim was immediately brought by his relatives to Sta. Ana Hospital, but was declared dead at around 8:57 p.m. 

In a media interview, the mother of the suspect said she had an argument with her husband before the incident.

She said her father, Rivera, who was drunk at the time, got mad at her husband after hearing them arguing.

“Nakikita ng tatay ko na umiiyak ako. Tapos itong gabing ‘to, si tatay nakainom na, nalasing na si tatay. Ginawa ng tatay ko, pinagmumumura asawa ko, inaaway. Hindi niya maalis na ganoon nga ang nangyayari sa buhay ko (My father could see that I was crying. On the night of the incident, my father had been drinking, so he was already drunk, he was cursing my husband due to his anger because he couldn't accept what was happening in my life),” the suspect's mother said. 

She added that her son heard that his father was being cursed by his grandfather, prompting the suspect to go after the old man outside.

“Pagkatapos nun narinig nga ng anak kong bagong gising na minumura ang tatay, lumabas. Sabi sinuntok, pero alam ko tinulak (After that, my son, who had just woken up, heard that his grandfather was cursing his father, so he went outside. Some said my son punched my father, but I know he pushed him),” she added. 

The mother asked her son to surrender for what he did to his grandfather. 

“Kung nasaan ka sumuko ka na. Gawin mo 'yung dapat mong gawin. Tatay ko ‘yan, lolo mo ‘yan (napatay). Umuwi ka. Sumuko ka na parang-awa mo na (Wherever you are, please just surrender. Do what you have to do. That's my father, that's your grandfather that you killed. Just go home and surrender),” the suspect's mother said. 

Police said they are still conducting a follow-up operation to arrest the suspect who immediately fled after committing the crime.
