Angels rout Solar Spikers for bounce-back victory

Still licking their wounds from a stinging five-set loss to the Chery Tiggo Crossovers last week, the Angels pounced on their rivals with Brooke Van Sickle in front of their assault to dispose of the Solar Spikers in 72 minutes.

The win restored order for Petro Gazz by hiking its win-loss tally to 5-2 to remain at solo fourth.

Van Sickle continued her offensive dominance by nailing 15 kills while firing three aces to pace the Angels with 19 points. She also had seven excellent digs.

Jonah Sabete also fueled the crew with nine points, while Remy Palma and KC Galdones combined for 13 points.

Ivy Perez also stepped up for the Angels, coming off the bench and contributing 10 excellent sets on top of six points.

“We just went back to basic volleyball,” said Petro Gazz’s Japanese coach Koji Tsuzurabara.

Petro Gazz still struggled with its unforced errors by giving up 20 points, but the risks paid off as it overpowered Capital1 on all fronts particularly on the service lane where it blasted nine aces compared to the Solar Spikers’ two.

The Angels also limited the Solar Spikers to 20 team attacks, with no player scoring in double figures as Des Clemente and Heather Guino-o could only post six and five points each.

Capital1 absorbed its fourth straight defeat to slip at 1-6 near the bottom standings.
