Its spring-summer 2024 collection is an homage to the 'Land Girls' in the 1940s

For years, Max Mara has been a fashion house that centered its design on women's needs. It has made its mark on the fashion map through its classic designs and handcrafted pieces that aim to celebrate the stories of its muses. That continues today as the Italian fashion house presents its spring-summer 2024 collection in its stores worldwide, including the Philippines.

Dubbed “An Army of Women,” its spring-summer 2024 collection pays homage to the Women’s Land Army, a British organization for women who worked in agriculture in the 1940s as men went to war. Centering on utilitarian pieces, its designs were focused on what the “Land Girls” wore as they worked together to nourish and cultivate the land of the nation during troubled times. Apart from the women’s organization, the collection is also inspired by the garden of the English poet Vita Sackville-West, bringing a sense of romance and functionality to the collection.

During a preview at its store in Greenbelt 3, the brand presented two sets that captured the idea of women empowerment in the collection. First was a parade of luxe neutrals. Its siren suit, military-style pieces, and jumpsuit are invitations for ladies to go on a great adventure. The second set is all about color. Structured silhouettes in shades of navy, pale blue, and lavender gave cool inspiration on what to wear this summer season.
Aside from the showcased pieces, women will find delight in the collection’s backless sundresses inspired by gardeners’ aprons, and triple-layered chiffon gowns, jodhpurs, and other reimagination workwear classics displayed at its Makati store.

“The theme may be pastoral but this is a collection dedicated to the big city girl and the modern mania for horticulture,” the brand says. “Her bag is more likely to contain a laptop and lunch box than fresh blooms from the walled garden and those high-heeled strappy sandals were made for strutting the sidewalk, not turning the earth. But today’s woman signals that she signs up for the new wave when she steps out in Max Mara’s land girl look.”
