Paris Olympics-bound boxers Eumir Marcial and Nesthy Petecio expressed their excitement as they join the national team when it sets up a training camp in Colorado, USA next month.

Marcial and Petecio, along with Aira Villegas, will prepare for the nearing Games with the other Filipino hopefuls who all wish to earn berths via the last qualifying tournament in May in Thailand.
As part of his buildup, the 28-year-old Marcial, who already secured his Paris ticket last year, displayed his prowess in front of Filipino fans, scoring a technical knockout victory over Thailand’s Thoedsak Sinam.
The middleweight, who fought in a higher weight class at light heavyweight, said he will participate in the US camp to further improve his skills.
“Sa ngayon po pinaguusapan po namin ng ABAP, kung ano pong magandang plano sa atin. Mag-training kami sa Colorado Springs, (USA), and then ‘yong team pupunta sa Thailand para sa second Olympic Qualifiers,” Marcial said on Saturday, March 24.
“So baka magstay ako do’n o depende po sa team ko kung ano po ‘yong nakakabuti sa akin,” he added.
Petecio, meanwhile, is pinning her hopes on three boxers, while also believing that others could pull off surprises in the Bangkok qualifiers.
“Hergie Bacyadan, Carlo Paalam, Rogen Ladon sila ‘yong mga sure na sasabak sa Thailand ‘yong iba under observations pa raw sabi ng mga coaches ko,” Petecio added.
