Manila Water advises customers to inspect water valves, meters before travel
East zone concessionaire Manila Water Co. Inc. is urging customers to check their water valves and meters before heading out of town.
In a statement on Monday, March 25, the water utility company reminded customers to assess their residences for possible leaks or defective fixtures to avoid water losses while they are away.
Neglecting these maintenance checks could result in unauthorized access to household water sources.
Subsequently, Manila Water also said that the company is expecting a six percent consumption increase during the summer, specifically during the Lenten season.
Nonetheless, the water company ensured mitigation measures were in place to deliver nonstop service to around 7.6 million East Zone consumers.
The concessionaire recently reported other auxiliary water sources ready to serve some parts of Metro Manila and Rizal to reduce reliance on Angat Dam, as it is currently declining due to the impact of El Niño.
The Cardona Treatment Plant, which sources water from Laguna Lake, has 110 million liters of water per day (MLD) capacity to serve residents in Rizal.
The East Bay Phase 1 Treatment Plant also gets its source from Laguna Lake and can treat up to 50 MLD of wastewater.
The Calawis Water Treatment Plant will also provide additional supply to Antipolo City, producing 80 MLD of treated water from the Tayabasan River.
The concessionaire is also drawing sources from the Marikina River with the 20-MLD Marikina Portable Treatment Plant.
Manila Water hopes to maintain the lowest non-revenue water (NRW) in Asia, with 13.58 percent intensified leak detection and quick response against illegal connections and losses.
