Grace Poe on China's latest water cannon attack: 'This uncivilized action should stop'
Senator Grace Poe on Monday, March 25 slammed China anew for its latest attack on a Philippine supply vessel at the West Philippine Sea, saying such “uncivilized action should stop.”
“We deplore the latest water cannon attack by China on a Philippine supply vessel that injured our three Navy personnel,” Poe said in a statement.
“This uncivilized action should stop. We must hold the Chinese vessel responsible for the injury inflicted on our troops,” she added.
National Security Adviser Eduardo Año disclosed that Saturday’s incident severely damaged the Unaizah May 4 vessel and injured three Navy personnel.
According to Año, the three military personnel were treated aboard a Philippine Coast Guard ship.
Poe urged the Philippine government to be relentless in raising the issue in the proper tribunal.
“From shadowing our vessels to collisions and water cannon assaults, incidents in the West Philippine Sea have been escalating. China’s actions appear geared to heighten the already tensed situation,” she said.
“While the Philippines continues to deal with the attacks in legal, legitimate and calm manner, we must also seek accountability,” she stressed.
