DSWD calls for improved support for women with disabilities

Celebrating the 20th Women with Disabilities Day, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday, March 25, called for changes to help women with disabilities fight for their rights.

"We call on everyone to support disability-specific programs and services to address the targeted needs of women and girls with disabilities," DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said in his message.
He underscored that the whole nation and society approach is necessary to create more opportunities to integrate these disability-related policies.
Also, to address the barriers that hinder their participation in equal rights with other people.
The chief also recognized the leadership potential of women within their communities.
Gatchalian added that by providing "adequate opportunities and support," women can significantly participate in the socio-economic development of our country.
To continue, DSWD added that these inspirational women with disabilities shared testimonials on breaking societal barriers and promoting disability inclusion in their fields.
Women disability rights advocates, representatives from the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) in various Metro Manila cities, national government agencies, and non-government organization partners attended the event.
