Marking their 16th year of supporting the initiative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), SM City North Edsa partnered up with the Philippine K-Pop Society for a fun and interactive Earth Hour for K-pop fans.
Various booths from different fan clubs gathered at the Skygarden while waiting for the actual lights-off celebration that will be happening at the Block Atrium on Saturday.
Richard Caluyo, Assistant Vice President of SM Cares, shared in an interview what made them collaborate with the K-pop fan clubs.
"We decided with this partnership kasi alam naman natin yung mga K-pop and P-pop fans, they really bring their light sticks kapag naiiluminate nila yun just like an ocean, telling people that we're here showing our commitment to the environment," Richard said.

Richard also added, that through this initiative, they will be able to encourage the younger generation to embrace environmental conservation.
"We hope that with the participation of the youth, we can amplify more important information about saving the environment and participating in this event," he shared.
The event got more exciting, as the establishment dimmed at 8:30 p.m. As part of the observation of Earth Hour, the glow of K-pop light sticks illuminated a section of the mall, while fans sang and danced together.

Through the collective efforts of SM Supermalls, its tenants and customers in supporting Earth Hour in 2023, SM malls saved 4825.61 kwH of energy, equivalent to CO2 emissions from charging 417,940 smartphones.
