Businessman Rey Palma Libre, 39, and two of his workers were heading toward the Zamboanga City proper at around noontime on Thursday, March 21,  when they were accosted by three lawmen assigned to the PRO-9.

The businessman was turned over by the three policemen to the Cabaluay Community Police Action Center under the Sangali Police Station.

Initial investigation reportedly focused on  the involvement of the three policemen under the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-9 and a personnel of the Sangali Police Station in the extortion activity.

PRO-9 Director Police Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey Masauding has ordered the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division and the Zamboanga City Police Office to conduct an extensive probe to determine the culpability of these police personnel.

“The integrity and professionalism of PRO-9 are of utmost importance and any misconduct or abuse of authority will not be tolerated," said Masauding.
