House Speaker Martin Romualdez gave props to several agencies that were key in expanding the discounts being accorded to senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Hailed by Romualdez for their efforts and decisive actions were the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agriculture (DA), and Department of Energy (DOE).
“The swift action taken by these departments to increase the discounts for our senior citizens and PWDs is not just a victory for these groups but a triumph for all ordinary Filipinos,” stated the Speaker.
Romualdez noted that this initiative is in line with the broader government agenda to enhance the quality of life for all Filipinos, especially the elderly and PWDs. It also complements the recent enactment of Republic Act (RA) 11982, the Expanded Centenarian Act, which provides additional support to senior citizens.
The increased discounts followed a series of oversight hearings in the House that were ordered by the Speaker.
The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) underscored the benefits of this policy to the ordinary Filipino, and noted that the increased discounts would lead to significant savings for families.

“By increasing the purchasing power of our senior citizens and PWDs, we are indirectly benefiting their families and the broader community. These savings can be redirected to other essential needs, contributing to the overall economic health of our nation,” he explained.
He also highlighted that this policy demonstrates the Marcos administration's dedication to building a more compassionate and equitable society.
This, the Speaker pointed out, was made possible through the collaborative effort between the legislature and the executive in championing the welfare of senior citizens and PWDs.
Speaker Romualdez vowed that the House of Representatives would continue its advocacy for policies that support and empower all Filipinos, particularly the most vulnerable sectors.
“Through these concerted efforts, we are making strides towards a more inclusive, caring, and prosperous Philippines where the benefits of development are felt by every Filipino,” he added.
