DOH mourns passing of mental health, gender equality champion Dr. Gia Sison
The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, March 23, extended its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and admirers of the late Dr. Gia Sison.

Sison, aged 53, passed away on March 21 --- leaving behind a legacy of compassion and resilience.
She was revered as a champion of mental health and gender equality and left an indelible mark on the medical community.
As a breast cancer survivor, her advocacy resonated deeply, inspiring countless individuals.
Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa highlighted the DOH's profound appreciation: "Maraming salamat, Dr. Gia, sa pagkilos tungo sa ginhawa ng isip at damdamin (Thank you very much, Dr. Gia, for working towards the comfort of mind and emotions).
He stressed the significant contributions of Sison towards advancing mental health awareness and services in the country, pledging that the health sector will persist in ensuring accessible mental health care for all Filipinos.
The DOH also reflected on Sison's unwavering commitment to mental health, describing her as a beacon of hope whose compassionate advocacy transcended boundaries.
Her voice, characterized by her calm and approachable nature, served as a powerful catalyst for positive change in mental health policies and perceptions, the DOH said.
